“Agriturismo”:
Several country farms offer delicious food, local cuisine and wines. Many of them are in the hills around the village of Padru ( 20 Km.). Ask Reception.

Banks and Post :
There are two Banks and a Post Office in San Teodoro, a Post Office at Vacileddi ( 4 Km ) and a Bank in Porto San Paolo. With a credit card you can pay your bill at the Residence.

Beach:
Baia Salinedda is a bay about half a kilometre long. We have part of it on lease in order to place our beach-umbrellas and deck-chairs. Nevertheless everybody else has the right of walking on the 3 metres strip from the waterline.
We recommend you to keep the Residence’s chairs inside our area, and to close the umbrellas the evening .
See also the item seaweeds which is very important.

Bikes:
You can reach the surrounding beaches and make pleasant tours ( ask Reception ); If you don’t bring your own, we have a few bikes for ret or you can find more sophisticated ones in San Teodoro .

Books and Magazines:
At the Reception we have a small library of books in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish and a collection of THE ECONOMIST magazine.

Boats:
The best way to enjoy the beauty of the Sardinian coast is by boat. Rent a boat locally. Pleasant trips are organised in high season from Porto San Paolo (8 Km) to the Tavolara island, from Cala Gonone (70 Km) to Cala Luna and to the Cave of Bue Marino (Monaca Seal) and from Palau (50 Km ) to La Maddalena Archipelago.
If you bring your own boat, you can tow it to the sea on arrival and departure days. Bigger boats can be lifted with a crane at Porto Coda Cavallo (1 Km): There are a few mooring buoys in the bay. It is forbidden to approach the shore with the engine running.

Capo Coda Cavallo:
On the peninsula of Coda Cavallo there are seven large beaches and a few smaller ones. The most famous is “Brandinchi”( also called Tahiti because of its beauty). Fortunately 80% of the total area at Coda Cavallo is still protected Mediterranean bush. Only few houses have been built closer than 300 metres from the sea. Every construction, included ours, must have a treatment plant, and anyway the resulting water never goes to the sea. This peninsula is part of the Maritime Park of Tavolara and Coda Cavallo. On this area you can find a few tourist settlement and private houses, but there is not a local village; the nearest one is San Teodoro. Even tough this area is visited mainly in summer, we suggest a visit in springtime , when the perfume and coulor of blossoming wild flowers match the beauty of sea and empty beaches. And also in the autumn, when the days are cooler but the sea remains warm until November.

Cars:
You need a car for shopping and sightseeing. If you don't come with your own, you can hire one in Olbia or S.Teodoro (the fare from the airport is 35/40 € )
You don't need a car to go to our beach (in fact, cars are not allowed) but you can rent a bike to go to the surrounding beaches. In high season avoid driving to Olbia late in the afternoon because you might be stuck in the traffic going to the ferries. Roads are all in good conditions, also in the countryside where petrol station and cars are rare, but you could run into a cow just after a curve.

Caves:
There are a few beautiful caves: among the most impressive and easy to reach are “ Grotta del Bue Marino” ( habitat of the “monaca” seal ) near Cala Gonone ( 85 Km) , “ Grotte di Ispignoli” near Dorgali ( 85 Km) and “Grotte di Nettuno” near Alghero (135 Km).

Cork:
Collecting it and shaping all sort of objects from the oak tree bark is a very old tradition. Around the Calangianus and Tempio areas you might see many "naked" trees that become red after they are stripped of the bark, which is done every seven years .

Disabled:
Several bungalows have easy access for disabled people and one has specially adapted shower and toilet .In such special circumstances, we allow their car to go to the beach every day.

Dogs:
Dogs are welcomed at Baia Salinedda, but for safety reason , and because at Baia Salinedda there are always many children , they must be kept on leash.
Local regulations don’t allow to take them to the beach.
We reserve some bungalows for the dog owners.

Near the Reception there is a facility for E-mail and Internet free of charge.

Irrigation:
In all the gardens there is an automatic irrigation system working during the night .
Please make sure that the children don’t touch it because it is recycled water and the sprinklers might change direction .

Myrtle:
It's an aromatic evergreen bush with small perfumed white flowers. It grows wild all over the place. It is widely used as a cooking herb and its berries are used to make the popular liqueur MIRTO. You can buy it in the shops and “agriturismo” farms.

Mosquitoes:
To fight them we do some spraying on the surrounding ponds, but not too often for ecological reason. We provide each bed with mosquito-nets . For the outdoor evenings, it is advisable that you bring with you your own insect repellent.

Museums:
You can visit the Archaeological Museum of Sassari and the Ethnographic Museum of Nuoro. In San Teodoro there is a small Museum of the Sea.Ask the local tourist board.

Nuraghe:
They are interesting prehistoric constructions, primitive forts of the Stone Age, imposing remains of an ancient civilisation which hasn't been fully uncovered yet.
On the roads you will often see sings to find them. The best known of the area is Tiscali (95 Km) and the easiest to reach is “ la Tomba dei Giganti” near Arzachena (40 Km) .

Olbia:
It is the main arriving port for ferries and planes to the North West coast of Sardinia . During the summer its port and airport are very busy .If you have to reach a ferry in the evening you might be stuck in the traffic .
It is also a lively town, ancient Roman and Pisan port.
There is an interesting medieval Romanesque church, entirely built in granite stone, S.Simplicio, were on the 15 of May you can see the important festivity of the town’s patron.
There are various happenings and entertainments held at night along Corso Umberto, with the road close to traffic. Olbia is the main town of the Gallura Region of N.E. of Sardinia.

Provisions and food:
At the bar of the Residence, you can buy several items of simple food and basic needs . The nearest shops are at Porto Coda Cavallo Village ( 600 mt) and at Coda Cavallo Camping ( 2 Km ) opened from June to September. On the main road to Monte Petrosu (3 Km) and at Lu Frailli (3 Km) there are shops open all year round. If you want to go to a supermarket you have to drive to Porto San Paolo or San Teodoro. There are two big shopping centres open also on Sundays: “Auchan” near the airport and “Hiperstanda” on the road to Costa Smeralda. During the summer a fruit vendor comes with his van at the beginning of the Coda Cavallo road.

Restaurants:
Our Restaurant at Baia Salinedda provides snacks, simple meals and Pizzas you can also take away. Some evenings they organise special dinners based on fish, meat or local cuisine.
Sardinian cuisine is based on simple ingredients.

San Teodoro
Is the main centre of the area. There you can find banks, post office, supermarkets, car repairs and so on. The population of 3.000 inhabitants swells to 50.000 during the summer, but the warm hospitality remains. The evenings are lively. The village feast, celebrated on the 3° Sunday of June, marks the beginning of the summer season during which the town’s centre is reserved to pedestrian and fills with typical stalls selling local products. Shops, restaurants and “pizzerie” are open till late.

Scuba Diving:
From Santa Teresa all the way down to Tavolara there is the highest concentration of scuba diving sites: the most famous are Monte Régalo, Spargiotti, “La Secca Dei Monaci”,” La Città Delle Nacchere” and” La Secca Del Papa”.

Seaweeds:

In the winter many beaches are covered with layers of seaweeds driven by the sea current: sometimes they form a heap more than one metre high. This is an important factor because it prevents winter sea-storms to erode the beach. For this reason seaweeds removal is allowed only with caution and with an authorisation which anyway limits the extent of such removal.

Telephone:
There is a public phone near the Reception, where you can buy phone cards. Portable phones have quite a good reception.
Tennis:
It is possible to play tennis at Porto Coda Cavallo ( 800 mt ). You can reserve the court and hire rackets at the Reception.

Water:

Sea water is crystal clear, among the cleanest of Italy because there is no spilling into the sea in any place of the coast . Its temperature goes from 17°C in May and November to 22°C in August . On the beach, you may sometimes scent a smell of sulphur; it comes from the decomposing seaweed. Don’t worry: it is safe and even good for your skin. The water of the Residence is provided by the local Utility and it is drinkable. In the surroundings there are a few sources with good spring water. The source of Straulaus is very renown ; you follow the main road direction Budoni, 2 Km after the motorway entrance, turn right at a crossroad where you see a public telephone and after 500mt you get to the source. If you like to drive go inland to Tempio Pausania , where there is an excellent spring water.

Wildlife:
Around your bungalows in Coda Cavallo you can frequently see partridges at day time and hare at night, and off season even a wild boar. There are also land turtles; they are protected as an endangered species and it is forbidden to take them away. In Sardinia there are no vipers. If you happen to see a grass snake do not be afraid because it is harmless and please do not kill it: it is useful to maintain the natural habitat. San Teodoro lagoon , specially in the spring, is crowded with flamingos, wild ducks , herons, little aigrettes; black winged stilts and other migratory birds. A few of them can also bee seen in our small lagoon at Baia Salinedda. During spring and autumn you might see cormorants fishing in the sea near our beach.

Windsurf:

If you like this sport, bring your own board with you.
Our bay with its calm water is an ideal place when the wind is strong.
There are some beaches where you can hire a board and there are two places where you can take lessons: on the beach of “Cinta” ( San Teodoro ) and at Murta Maria ( 10 Km direction Olbia ).
